Back from Vacation!

I am back! I had a good time, It was nice to get away for a bit but of course I am glad to be back home. I did a lot of stuff while I was gone like go to the Seattle Art Museum where I saw an exhibit of some Andrew Wyeth artworks, which were AMAZING. Incredible artist, big bummer that he is dead. I ate a lot of fish and chips, yum, I beat mario galaxy on the wii, I went and saw Twisted Flix, which is where this improve group shows some terrible old scifi film and they dub over the audio and ad in their own voices and music and sound effects live while the film is playing, based on suggestions from the audience. I have only been to it 2 times but you can buy dvds of past tapeings from them and they are pretty much all very funny, especially if you like bad movies. I finally read the Road which was fantastic, but terribly bleak and depressing pretty much the whole way through, and honestly I had to stop reading multiple times towards the last couple of chapters, because I knew if I kept on reading I would cry, and when you are in a car with your family members that's pretty embarrassing. Seriously though if you are not crying or almost crying by the end of that book, you are a heartless monster. Since I could not make it to Comic-con this year I bought and read a bunch of comic books, which include, Blade of the Immortal volume 3, they didn't have volume 2, but lucky for me the story really isn't hindered. Blade of the Immortal is pretty much the only Manga type book I read, the art is beautiful and the fights are awesome and even the story holds up, I can tell Samurai Champloo draws a lot from this series. Definitely give this one a try if only for the nice art. I also got Powers, which I have been hearing for a long time is a great series, and after reading the first trade, I am definitely interested in seeing where this story goes. Powers is about a couple of police officers who solve crimes involving super heroes. I usually tend to stay away from the capes and cowls side of comic books, but this one is pretty good. I also bought 2 trades of Walking Dead, which is excellent as usual. As I was reading those 2 I was drawing A LOT of comparisons between the road and walking dead, especially where I stopped reading Walking Dead, which is volume 8, that book ends pretty much the same way the road begins. I really didn't want to read walking dead because the road was such a downer, and I knew walking dead would be more of that, and man I was right. I don't know why I am drawn to this type of stuff, these writers have no remorse and don't give a crap what they do to these poor characters. If they don't die a horrible death then they take a limb or take part of their sanity. At times I wish Walking Dead sucked so I could stop reading it, but I cant, its like the LOST addiction, I got to see these people through! I got to keep on reading and hope they make it out alright.

I still had a lot of fun on my vacation despite such grim reading material. I can't wait for the road film, and I am definitely looking for more issues of walking dead.

P.S.

here is a trailer for "The Road" as well as some pictures of the comic books I got. The trailer makes the movie seem more actiony then the book, but it is the trailer, and they always edit that stuff to hook as many people in as they can.

Good times and Bad times

Washington was fun, and seeing my family up there was good too. I was going to talk a lot about this, but i really dont feel like it, just know that i did some stuff up there. I bought some comics, blade of the immortal and walking dead. Both are awesome. I am trying to get my drivers license, but when i try to get it something always gets in the way, first my permit expires then the dmv goes on strike. wonderful.

Here is some art. in order from worst to best.

who is the master?!

Yesterday I watched a hilariously bad movie called The Last Dragon. Its about a kungfu student in Harlem looking for "the master" so that he can achieve the highest level of kungfu mastery, which is called "the glow" along the way he meets a beautiful host of a tv show and must save her from the self proclaimed "shogun" of Harlem. Its pretty ridiculous and it is totally awesome.

If you ever get the chance to watch it i suggest you do.

I also finished reading Superman: Red Son. Its a book about what it would be like if superman landed in Soviet Russia and not in America. It was pretty fun to read. It felt like a lite- watchmen. It dealt with nuclear war and the struggle between two different ideals and that sort of stuff that watchmen did, but in this book it was pretty heavy handed. It doesn't make it bad, just something I noticed. The art was pretty good. Normally i am not a fan of this traditional styled western comic book art. ( if that even makes sense) To me they all look the same. This kind of fits into that category for me, but i still can appreciate that its drawn well. I usually don't read marvel or dc books, they just aren't my thing, but I picked this up because I love character redesigns. The redesigns I thought were fantastically done. The best one by far was Batman. I don't think I've ever seen a cooler batman then the one in this book. The greenlanter, who I barely know anything about, was also really awesome looking too.

Id give it about a 4 out of 5. check it out when you get the chance.

This is kinda tangential but noticed this while reading this book and watchmen. when people are speaking certain words are bolded in their speech. I was trying to figure out why it was like that, because normally something is bolded for emphasis, so i tried reading it out loud while putting emphasis on the bolded words and it sounded so weird, so that couldn't be the reason. I also thought they just bolded the vital information so people who were skimming to see those words and kinda understand whats going on. That made a little more sense but it still didn't explain some of the weirder ones. Can anyone explain to me why this is? its bugging me.

What I have been up to (aka Things i recommend.)

Here is a list of things i have done lately, starting with today, I went to my life drawing workshop, and did these drawings. excuse the awful photos.

LOOK AT IT!

The person who modeled today looked a lot like Marsha from Spaced.

Pretty crazy, I know. Speaking of Spaced. I watched managed to procure the series by means which i will not explain, and I loved every minute of it. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost are my masters! Lucky for me the dvd for spaced was released in America not to long ago, and I will buy it as soon as I have the cash! Seriously guys, if you haven't seen the show you are missing out big time. I forgot to post on my comic con extravaganza post that i am 99% sure i also saw Daisy from Spaced, not 100%, but im pretty sure i did see her.
This is Daisy

SEE IT!

I also finished watching Avatar! DUUUDE it was so good! One of the best cartoon series ive ever seen! I know people like to hate on it, but damn that show is so good i really wish people would give it a fair shake. Its a really amazing show.

WATCH IT!

Speaking of WATCH (i am soo good at these segways) I finished WATCHMEN! It was really a great read, even though near the end there was one part i thought was kinda weird, i understood what it was trying to do. I now am a LOT more interested in the upcoming film. I think it will be interesting to see how they handel that part of the book. If the end is anything like the book ( and it looks like it will be) this movie will blow peoples minds. Totally great book.

READ IT!

Ive been kinda looking for a job but not really very hard. I would like to work at a comic book shop, but the places ive called dont have any openings. Bummer for me.
What else... I have been playing tf2 of course, that is always fun, been drawing in photoshop lately, i still dont know what i like more, painter or photoshop. I wish i could take them both and combine them, that would be the best thing ever. I am going up to visit some family in Washington state on tuesday, for about a week. soo i guess that means 1 week without blogging, oh no! well i guess ill just have to deal with that. Ill try to do as much drawing as i can while im up there.

Just a few random thoughts i have. I am looking at dogs lately, and i don't really know what kind to get. I really like this dog called the shiba inu, but i hear that they are hard to train and can be kinda buttholes if you dont train them right. still they look very cute.

AWWWW very adorable i know.

I also heard today on the PC Gamer podcast that you can clean your keyboard by putting it in the dishwasher! i have never heard that before, but i think i will try it because my keyboard is pretty nasty. If it breaks then that gives me more of a reason to buy a new one. Ive been wanting a new keyboard for a while, i want something really fancy like the cyborg keyboard.

that is pretty freakin rad. Just one look at it and you know some serious gaming is going down. You can customize the lighting one the keyboard so that only wasd lights up and everything!
very bitchin.

Here is a LINK to the specs and all that jazz. I want it very badly!

anyways that about wraps it up for now. Maybe ill post some more art before i leave for my trip, maybe not. ONLY THE FUTURE KNOWS WHAT IS INSTORE! SO STAY TUNED!

Ian OUT!

that was lame.
